ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Rangers blanked the Guardians 5-0 on Sunday to complete a dominant three-game sweep at Globe Life Field. Merrill Kelly tossed seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, picking up his first win with Texas as the team improved to 66-66 and climbed ahead of Cleveland in the AL Wild Card standings.
It was Texas’ 13th shutout of the season and second straight after Saturday’s 10-0 win. The Rangers’ rotation allowed just one earned run over 21 innings in the series — their best series ERA at home since 2005.
Wyatt Langford extended his on-base streak to 14 games, driving in two and stealing both second and third in the fourth inning. Rowdy Tellez and Joc Pederson each homered, with Tellez’s 426-foot blast opening the scoring.
Adolis García stayed hot since returning from the IL, while Kelly recorded his MLB-high fifth pickoff. Texas hit seven homers in the series — their most at home in a set since last August.
Cleveland has now lost five straight and was shut out in back-to-back games for the second time this season.
