Rangers Swept, Offense Fizzles After First-Inning Blast

ARLINGTON – The Rangers jumped ahead early but couldn’t hold it, falling 4-2 to the Phillies to cap a three-game sweep at Globe Life Field.

Joc Pederson’s two-run homer in the first was the lone damage for Texas, which went scoreless the rest of the way and has now dropped four straight. Patrick Corbin cruised through three innings before Philly broke through — Bryce Harper doubled home a run in the fourth, Edmundo Sosa tied it with a solo shot in the fifth, and Weston Wilson’s RBI single put the visitors ahead for good.

Zack Wheeler struck out seven over five innings for his 10th win, aided by Harrison Bader’s homer-robbing grab on a Corey Seager drive.

The loss drops Texas to 2-4 on the homestand with Arizona coming to town Monday.
