deGrom Sharp, Seager Homers as Rangers Handle Pirates

PITTSBURGH — Jacob deGrom continued his dominant stretch, tossing six solid innings to guide the Texas Rangers past the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-2, Friday night at PNC Park.

DeGrom (7-2) struck out seven while allowing two runs on five hits and a walk, extending his club-record streak to 12 straight starts of two or fewer runs and five or fewer hits. The two-time Cy Young winner is now 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four June starts.

Corey Seager snapped a long power drought with a solo home run in the fifth — his first since May 10 — off Pittsburgh rookie Mike Burrows. The All-Star shortstop had been sidelined earlier this season with a hamstring injury.

Adolis García delivered three hits, including a double and his ninth homer of the year, while also making two outstanding catches in right field. Marcus Semien went 2-for-5, extending his hitting streak to 12 games.

Burrows (1-2) allowed four runs and seven hits over 4.2 innings. Joey Bart had three hits to pace the Pirates’ offense.

Texas first baseman Jake Burger exited in the seventh with left-side tightness. Wyatt Langford missed the game due to back spasms.

Next Up: Rookie Kumar Rocker (2-4, 7.31 ERA) gets the start Saturday for Texas, facing Mitch Keller (1-9, 4.08) for Pittsburgh.
