Rangers Silenced Late in 2-0 Loss to Blue Jays

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers were held to a single hit in a 2-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night, ending their series with another offensive struggle.

Josh Smith’s first-inning single was the only hit for Texas, which was shut out for the seventh time this season. The lineup couldn’t solve Toronto’s bullpen, which retired the final 19 batters.

Starter Tyler Mahle continued to dominate at home, tossing six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. He lowered his ERA at Globe Life Field to 0.82 across eight starts.

The game was decided in the ninth when a pinch-hit two-run homer put Toronto in front for good. The Rangers dropped two of three in a series that featured just seven total runs.
