SEATTLE, WASHINGTON — FC Dallas conceded a late penalty in the 86th minute and fell 1-0 to Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday afternoon at Lumen Field.
Albert Rusnák converted from the spot to seal the win for Seattle (6-4-5, 23 points), while Dallas (4-6-4, 16 points) dropped its second straight road match despite a solid defensive performance.
Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes, wearing the captain’s armband for just the second time in his MLS career, recorded three saves and one clearance. His record as captain is now 0-1-1.
Head coach Eric Quill rotated his lineup heavily following a midweek U.S. Open Cup match, making six changes. Defender Marco Farfan made his first start since returning from injury, while midfielder Patrickson Delgado also returned to the XI.
“I’m proud of the fight,” Quill said. “We’re losing games by the finest of margins. We’ve got to be better in those key moments.”
Despite competing well for most of the match, Dallas struggled to create chances and continued its poor record at Lumen Field, falling to 1-12-4 all-time in Seattle and 8-16-11 overall against the Sounders.
Midfielder Anderson Julio acknowledged the difficulty of the match after a long week of travel.
“We played hard after a tough stretch, but we couldn’t finish our chances,” Julio said. “Now we’ve got to regroup and focus on what’s ahead.”
FC Dallas returns to action Wednesday night at FC Cincinnati (6:30 p.m. CT) before hosting the Philadelphia Union on May 31 (7:30 p.m. CT). Both matches will be available on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
