DALLAS, TEXAS — The Dallas Mavericks pulled off a stunner on lottery night, vaulting from the 11th spot to win the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. With just a 1.8% chance at the top selection, Dallas defied the odds and now holds the right to draft Duke superstar Cooper Flagg, the consensus top prospect in this year’s class.
This is only the second time the Mavericks have held the first overall pick, the first being in 1981 when they selected Mark Aguirre. It’s also the first time in franchise history that Dallas has moved up in the lottery order.
The timing is pivotal for a franchise entering a new era. With former cornerstone Luka Dončić now in Los Angeles following a blockbuster trade to the Lakers, the Mavericks are in the midst of a roster reset—and landing a generational talent like Flagg could jumpstart a fresh chapter in Dallas.
