FRISCO, TEXAS — FC Dallas has bolstered its offense with the acquisition of Argentine forward Luciano “Lucho” Acosta from FC Cincinnati in a historic cash trade. The deal, valued at $5 million with up to $1 million in performance-based incentives, marks the largest cash-for-player trade in MLS history.

Acosta, the 2023 MLS MVP, joins FC Dallas as a Designated Player and is expected to play a key role in the team’s pursuit of its first MLS Cup. Known for his exceptional playmaking ability, Acosta was instrumental in Cincinnati’s success, leading the team to the 2023 MLS Supporters’ Shield and recording 31 goal contributions in 2023.

FC Dallas President Dan Hunt expressed excitement about the signing, calling it a statement of the club’s ambition to compete at the highest level. Sporting Director André Zanotta praised Acosta’s leadership, technical skill, and vision, emphasizing his fit within the team’s attacking philosophy.

Acosta, who has 54 goals and 62 assists for Cincinnati, has also earned three MLS Best XI selections and captained the MLS All-Star teams in 2023 and 2024. His previous MLS experience includes a stint with D.C. United, where he helped the club reach the playoffs three times.

FC Dallas will face Cincinnati on May 28, marking an early return for Acosta to his former team.
