SMU Looks To Beat BYU For The First Time In Program History

DALLAS, TEXAS — SMU football is looking to beat Brigham Young University for the first time in what will be their fifth meeting. There’s also a home winning streak on the line, the Mustangs hoping to make it 10-straight.

BYU has lost its last five road games dating back to last year, but SMU has never been able to best the Cougars.

Their most recent meeting was back in 2022 at the New Mexico Bowl, which resulted in a 24-23 win in favor of BYU. The Mustangs haven’t had luck on home soil, either, having last hosted the Cougars in 1997, which ended in a 16-19 overtime loss for SMU.

BYU is coming off of a 41-13 win over Southern Illinois, while SMU beat Houston Christian University 59-7. 10 different Mustangs put points on the board.

While at the New Mexico Bowl back in 2022, both head coaches, SMU’s Rhett Lashlee and BYU’s Kalani Sitake shared a meal together—now, they’ll share the field again, two years later, under Friday night lights at 6 p.m.
