Mavericks Fall To The Short Handed Pelicans

The Dallas Mavericks suffered a loss last night to the New Orleans Pelicans with a final score of 113-111. Luka Doncic and Christian Wood were yet again the dynamic duo on the court but it just wasn’t enough to win the game with Doncic taking the final shot of the game, where he got up a 3 pointer from his favorite spot on the left wing but the time ran out.

The Mavs were off to a slow start in the first quarter, while the very shorthanded Pelicans team was on fire. Just in the first quarter, the Pelicans were shooting 58% from the field and 44% percent from deep. Dallas shot 50% from the field, but just 30% from deep with 39 attempts.

Christian Wood is becoming more and more of “that man” for not only his team but viewers around the world. In just the last three games, Wood has fully established himself as Dallas’s second best player on the roster. In those 26 minutes he played last night, Wood is averaging 24 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists every game while also shooting 62% from the field and 61% on 3’s.

Woods talked about when or if he will be a starter for the team this season, but it seems he wants to stay humble and not step on anyone’s toes, stating, “I’m still trying to figure it out. I believe I am at the starting caliber, but at the same time, it’s a new role for me and I am trying to do everything right. I am just trying to do my job.”

Although last night’s loss wasn’t significant, the Dallas Mavericks will have to work on some things offensively and defensively and keep their chemistry alive. The Mavs will go on to play the Brooklyn Nets tomorrow in Brooklyn at 6:30 PM CT.
