SMU Defeats Nicholls, Mustangs Advance To The 2nd Round In The NIT

DALLAS, Texas — SMU beat Nicholls 68-58 in the first round of the 2022 National Invitation Tournament on Wednesday night. The Mustangs finished 2nd in the American Athletic Conference regular season and move on to the 2nd round of the post season tournament at 24-8 overall.

The Weathers brothers both had 16-point double-doubles. Michael led SMU statistically, adding 12 rebounds to his big night scoring. Marcus had 11 rebounds, earning his 8th double-double of the season. AAC Player of the Year, Kendric Davis scored 10 points for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs will play Washington State in the 2nd round of the NIT, with another chance for a win at home. The game time and date have yet to be decided, but SMU will fight to defend their perfect 17-0 record in Moody Coliseum.
