SMU Begins American Athletic Conference Against South Florida

DALLAS, Texas — SMU begins American Athletic Conference undefeated, looking sharp in each of their 4 wins so far this season. South Florida finished non-conference competition 1-3.

SMU has great momentum, coming off a big win at TCU in the 100th Battle for the Iron Skillet, where the Mustangs put up almost 600 yards of total offense. SMU quarterback, Tanner Mordecai leads FBS with 20 passing touchdowns through 4 games, 5 ahead of any other quarterback. The Mustangs offense averages 43 points per game.

The Mustangs rally around “Club takeaway,” a team celebration that follows any turnover forced by the defense. So far this season, the Mustangs have had at least one of those celebrations per game.

4th year Head Coach, Sonny Dykes has had tremendous success during his time on the Hilltop. His 2019 team won 10 games, the most wins in a single season by SMU since 1984.

American teams have an 8-game conference schedule. After USF, the Mustangs go to Navy, and then finish October with Tulane and Houston. The top 2 teams from the regular season will play each other in the AAC Championship game on December 4th.

Tonight’s match up kicks off at 3 pm CT in Ford Stadium and will be televised on ESPNU. The Hilltop will be festive as the Mustangs celebrate homecoming weekend.
