Cowboys Sign TE Blake Jarwin to 3-Year Contract Extension

FRISCO, Texas –- The Dallas Cowboys have likely made the decision on the club’s number one tight end moving forward. Dallas signed Blake Jarwin to a three-year contract extension worth up to $24.25 million, with $9.25 million guaranteed per ESPN.

Jarwin has shown promise and consistently gains yards after the catch. In 2019, he totaled 31 receptions for 365 yards, an 11.8 average after the catch, and three touchdowns. He was a reliable go-to target for Dak on third down and helped the team move the chains throughout the season. Despite his productivity on the field when given opportunities, the Cowboys still did not seem to trust Jarwin in the passing game. He was the team’s best receiving TE averaging a first down and more every two catches but was only on the field for 39% of snaps; Whereas, Jason Witten was on the field for 75% of snaps.

There are still question marks on Witten. He made the announcement that he would still like to play but after a lackluster year in 2019 for the Cowboys with his lowest output since his rookie campaign in 2003 and five dropped balls, Dallas will likely part ways with the 37-year-old. Witten has had a stellar career with the Cowboys but it is time for the team to build a new positional foundation under its new regime beginning with Jarwin. Hopefully this year, Jarwin will be given more opportunities accompanied by the pay increase.
