DALLAS — The Dallas Stars continue to build momentum at the right time.
Dallas pushed its point streak to 13 consecutive games Tuesday night with a hard-fought victory over the Vegas Golden Knights, improving to 12-0-1 during the stretch. The run matches the second-longest point streak in franchise history and marks the club’s longest since the 2001 season when Dallas recorded points in 13 straight contests.
Head coach Glen Gulutzan said the game unfolded exactly as expected against one of the NHL’s toughest teams.
“We knew it was going to be tight,” Gulutzan said. “There weren’t many Grade-A chances either way. They had a strong push early in the second, and Jake kept us in it. But I liked our response and the way we checked in the third.”
Veteran captain Jamie Benn delivered a key moment, scoring on the power play to extend Dallas’ streak of games with a man-advantage goal to 10 straight. It is the club’s longest power-play scoring stretch since March 2006 and the longest such streak in the NHL since Florida accomplished the feat during the 2023–24 season.
The goal also marked Benn’s first power-play tally of the season, making him the 12th different Stars skater to score with the extra attacker this year.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we got the two points,” Benn said. “Vegas is a good hockey team and games against them are always tight.”
Dallas leaned heavily on goaltender Jake Oettinger, who made several key saves to secure the win. The victory was his 103rd career home win, moving him past Cesare Maniago for the third-most home victories in franchise history. Only Marty Turco and Kari Lehtonen have more.
Oettinger credited patience and trusting the defensive structure in front of him.
“When I stay patient and trust my reads, I feel like I can play my best,” he said. “I felt good tonight and hopefully I can keep building that heading toward the playoffs.”
The Stars also received strong contributions from their depth lines. Colin Blackwell recorded an assist and led Dallas skaters with an 88.4 expected goals-for percentage, according to Natural Stat Trick.
“Games like that are fun,” Blackwell said. “It’s going to be heavy, physical hockey the rest of the way. Our line tried to stay aggressive and play our role.”
Dallas sealed the victory with disciplined defensive play late, blocking shots and winning key faceoffs while Vegas pushed with an extra attacker.
“The guys packed it in and did what they needed to do,” Gulutzan said. “Closing games like that is important for our mindset.”
Up Next: The Stars will host the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday in the fourth game of a season-long six-game homestand.
