DALLAS — SMU stayed within reach throughout, but Virginia closed strong to escape with a 72–68 win Tuesday night.
Four Mustangs scored in double figures, led by Jaron Pierre Jr.’s 16 points. B.J. Edwards added 13 points, five assists and two steals, while Boopie Miller finished with 12 points to extend his double-figure scoring streak to 25 straight games.
SMU controlled the paint (32–24) and points off turnovers (14–5), but Virginia’s 12 made three-pointers made the difference. Samet Yigitoglu contributed 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks as the Mustangs matched the Cavaliers defensively.
Despite the loss, SMU remains 11–1 at Moody Coliseum and 13–5 overall. The Mustangs head to Wake Forest next before hosting Florida State and traveling to Louisville.
