RALEIGH, N.C. — Early defensive breakdowns put the Dallas Stars in a deep hole they couldn’t escape in a 6–3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.
Carolina built a 5–1 lead by the middle of the second period, chasing Jake Oettinger after 15 shots as Dallas struggled in its own zone. Casey DeSmith finished the game in relief.
Jason Robertson put Dallas on the board with a fluky goal when the puck slipped out of Carolina goaltender Brandon Bussi’s equipment and into the net. Mikko Rantanen scored in the third and later set up Wyatt Johnston for a late rebound tally, but the Stars’ rally came too late.
Despite a stronger third period, Dallas couldn’t overcome its slow start and costly turnovers.
