FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are making another change on the sidelines, dismissing defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus after just one season in charge of the defense.
Eberflus was hired with expectations of stabilizing and elevating a veteran unit but never found the sustained consistency the organization sought. The decision underscores the Cowboys’ intent to reset that side of the ball after an uneven year marked by stretches of promise followed by costly lapses.
“Having known Matt Eberflus for decades now, we have tremendous respect and appreciation for him as a coach and a person. After reviewing and discussing the results of our defensive performance this season, though, it was clear that change is needed,” said Cowboys owner, president and general manager Jerry Jones. “This is the first step in that process, and we will continue that review as it applies to reaching our much higher expectations.”
No interim replacement was announced. The Cowboys are expected to begin their search immediately as they reassess their defensive identity heading into the offseason.
