DALLAS — SMU closed nonconference play with a statement.
B.J. Edwards recorded a triple-double and the Mustangs overwhelmed Cal State Fullerton 110–63 on Sunday at Moody Coliseum, finishing their nonconference slate 11–2 and staying perfect at home this season.
Edwards piled up 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists — his second triple-double of the year — spearheading an SMU offense that broke the century mark for the fourth time this season. Freshman Jermaine O’Neal Jr. added a season-best 21 points off the bench, while Corey Washington scored 15.
SMU led wire-to-wire, opening on a 10–0 run and building a 51–19 halftime margin behind swarming defense and relentless transition play. The Mustangs shot 53 percent from the field, knocked down 14 three-pointers and finished with 30 assists on 41 made baskets. They outscored the Titans 46–14 in the paint and 20–2 on fast breaks.
The night also featured a flurry of double-doubles. Edwards’ triple-double was joined by Boopie Miller’s 14 points and 12 assists and Samet Yigitoglu’s 11 points and 12 rebounds. Miller scored in double figures for the 21st straight game, while Yigitoglu posted his third consecutive double-double and added four blocks.
SMU placed six players in double figures, improved to 9–0 at home this season and extended its streak of regular-season nonconference home wins to 11. The 47-point final margin tied the ninth-largest victory in program history.
Cal State Fullerton fell to 5–9 and struggled to find traction offensively, shooting 32 percent from the floor.
SMU now turns fully to ACC play, beginning a marquee January stretch that includes home North Carolina and road trips to Clemson and Duke.
