ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Tech ended a 70-year wait in emphatic fashion, overpowering BYU 34–7 to win the Big 12 Championship and secure the program’s first conference title since 1955.
BYU opened with a sharp 90-yard touchdown drive, but the Cougars’ offense collapsed from there. Texas Tech seized full control, forcing four turnovers and holding BYU to barely 100 yards the rest of the way.
The Red Raiders methodically stretched their lead with a balanced, efficient attack that wore down BYU over four quarters. Once Tech grabbed momentum in the second quarter, the game never drifted back into doubt.
With the victory, Texas Tech positions itself for a first-round bye in the expanded College Football Playoff — a statement finish to a breakthrough season that rewrites the program’s trajectory.
