DALLAS — SMU started its 2025–26 campaign in style, rolling past Tarleton State 96–76 at Moody Coliseum for its 14th straight season-opening victory. The win also marked the sixth-highest scoring opener in program history.
The Mustangs showcased balanced offense, with five players scoring in double figures. Jaron Pierre Jr. led the way with 21 points, while co-captains Boopie Miller and B.J. Edwards each added 20. Miller went a perfect 11-for-11 at the line, and Edwards set a new career high. Corey Washington scored 16 in his debut, and Samet Yigitoglu added 12 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks.
SMU shot 56% from the field and went 33-of-42 on free throws, their most attempts since 2010. The Mustangs controlled the paint 30–22 and finished with 13 assists and six steals.
Now 25–11 under head coach Andy Enfield, SMU continues to show balance and depth early in year two of his tenure. The Mustangs next look to carry that momentum deeper into November as they chase another strong start to the season.
