WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — SMU’s 20-game conference win streak came to an end Saturday in a tough 13-12 loss to Wake Forest.
The Mustangs’ defense was dominant early, holding the Demon Deacons to -1 total yards in the first quarter and forcing five takeaways—their most since last season’s win over TCU. Terry Webb led with two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss, while Ahmaad Moses and Isaiah Nwokobia each picked off a pass.
Quarterback Kevin Jennings threw for 171 yards, connecting with eight different receivers, and Shaadie Clayton-Johnson scored SMU’s lone touchdown on a six-yard run.
SMU held Wake Forest to just 85 rushing yards and 2-of-4 in the red zone but couldn’t overcome missed opportunities late.
Now 5-3 overall, SMU returns home next week looking to bounce back and keep pace in the ACC.
