The SMU Mustangs made a statement in Death Valley, defeating Clemson 35-24 while extending their program-record conference win streak to 20 games — the longest active mark in the nation. The 5-2 Mustangs also set a new tone on the road, winning their ninth straight league game away from home.
Quarterback Kevin Jennings passed for 290 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yard strike to Jordan Hudson, who hauled in seven catches for 131 yards — his first career 100-yard game. Freshman Derrick McFall added a 35-yard rushing score, marking his third straight game with a touchdown.
SMU’s offense continued its quick-strike identity, notching three scoring drives under two minutes and now totaling 12 such drives this season. Defensively, the Mustangs completely shut down Clemson’s ground game, holding the Tigers to just 35 rushing yards on 30 attempts — and zero net yards in the second half.
The Mustangs’ front produced four sacks, eight tackles for loss, and a forced fumble by Brandon Miyazono recovered by Jakai Lang. SMU’s defense limited Clemson to 8-of-19 on third down and 1-of-2 on fourth.
Under Rhett Lashlee, SMU is now 34-14 overall and an incredible 30-3 when scoring 30 or more points.
