ARLINGTON — The Texas Rangers fell 4-2 Sunday to the Marlins, losing their seventh straight and getting swept at home for the third time this season. With six games left, Texas is now 7.5 games out in the AL West, extending their division-title drought to nine years.
Merrill Kelly struggled again, lasting just 4.1 innings while allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. After a scoreless start, the fourth and fifth innings saw runs from Otto Lopez, Heriberto Hernández, and Agustín Ramírez, ending Kelly’s outing.
Wyatt Langford hit a solo homer in the sixth—his 22nd of the season—and added a walk and stolen base, giving him four games this year with both a homer and a steal, the most by a Ranger since 2022. Cody Freeman added two hits, including an RBI single that made it 3-2.
The Marlins scored early and capitalized on speed, swiping three bases Sunday and 10 over the series—their most in a three-game set since 2003. Eury Pérez struck out nine over four scoreless innings, while Ramírez tied a club record for extra-base hits by a primary catcher.
Texas heads into its final home series of 2025 against Minnesota starting Tuesday, trying to halt its slide before the season ends.
