PHILADELPHIA, PA — A game that started with a championship banner being hung in Lincoln Financial Field, ended with a win for last season’s Super Bowl champs, and ultimately ended with the Philadelphia Eagles beating the Dallas Cowboys, 24-20.

Even before the game’s first snap, an Eagles player went down with an injury on the kickoff return. Shortly after, an ejection—defensive tackle Jalen Carter tossed out after spitting at Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

The Cowboys scored first, with a JaVontae Williams rushing touchdown. His first TD as a Cowboy, and the league’s first of the season. The last Cowboy to record a rushing touchdown in their first game with Dallas was RB Ezekiel Elliott in 2016. While QB Jalen Hurts scored on the next drive, Williams answered again—after the Cowboys let the play clock run out and finished their drive at the top of the second quarter—making him the first player in nearly 40 years to have multiple rushing touchdowns in a Cowboys debut. That last player was Kelvin Williams in 1987.

Afterwards, Philadelphia tied it up again with another Hurts TD.

The first time either team did not convert on third down led to a kicker Brand Aubrey field goal, before RB Saquon Barkley’s rushing TD with less than a minute to go in the second half that put the Eagles ahead for the first time in this one.

Philadelphia kept its lead into the half, but play would be stopped again when the score was 24-20 with less than five minutes to go in the third due to a weather delay.

After play resumed and in the Cowboys final drive, missed catches for WR CeeDee Lamb—despite being the fast Cowboys player to reach 500 career receptions and surpassing 100 receiving yards tonight—led to the Eagles getting the ball back after the two minute warning, ending with a loss to start off the head coach Brian Schottenheimer era.

Lamb finished with seven receptions for 110 yards; Prescott went 21 of 34 for 188 yards, and Williams’ 15 carries for 54 yards and 2 TDs only came second to Hurts’ 2 TDs and 14 carriers for 62 yards, on top of throwing for 19 of 23 and 153 yards.
