Chapel Hill, NC — Bill Belichick’s long-awaited return to the sidelines didn’t start with a win—it started with a blowout.
In his college head coaching debut, the six-time Super Bowl champion watched his North Carolina squad get overwhelmed at home, falling 48-14 to a fired-up TCU team Saturday night at Kenan Memorial Stadium.
The Horned Frogs took a 20-7 lead into halftime and never let up. Quarterback Josh Hoover was in control from start to finish, completing 27-of-36 passes for 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Running back Kevorian Barnes carved up UNC’s defense with 113 rushing yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries.
Defensively, TCU made life miserable for the Tar Heels—especially after the break. Safety Bud Clark delivered the dagger with a second-half pick-six, blowing the game wide open and igniting the Horned Frogs sideline.
It was a jarring welcome to the college game for Belichick, whose Tar Heels were outplayed in every phase.
For TCU, the road win was more than just a strong start—it was a statement. The Frogs move to 1-0 with all the momentum heading into Week 2. UNC, meanwhile, faces a steep climb ahead.
