DALLAS — SMU opened its 2025 season with a 42-13 win over East Texas A&M on Saturday night, backed by a record-setting crowd of 33,044 at Ford Stadium — the largest home opener attendance since 2014. A program-best 5,176 students packed the stands, continuing the surge in on-campus support.
Quarterback Kevin Jennings led the charge, throwing for 260 yards and two touchdowns, and adding a rushing score. Wideout Romello Brinson posted career highs with seven catches for 121 yards, including a 63-yard TD on SMU’s first drive.
Defensively, the Mustangs returned two interceptions for touchdowns — a 10-yarder by Alexander Kilgore and a 95-yard pick-six by Ahmaad Moses. SMU also forced a fumble and tallied three sacks.
Under head coach Rhett Lashlee, SMU improves to 1-0 and has now won 20 of its last 21 regular-season games and seven straight season openers.
