DALLAS, TEXAS — SMU kicks off the 2025 season Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium against East Texas A&M, marking the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
The Mustangs enter ranked No. 16 in both preseason polls after an 11-3 campaign that included their first College Football Playoff appearance. SMU became one of just 21 programs to make the CFP and notched back-to-back 11-win seasons for the first time in program history.
Quarterback Kevin Jennings returns after leading the conference in passer efficiency, and preseason All-American safety Isaiah Nwokobia anchors the defense. Head coach Rhett Lashlee owns a 29-12 record and has SMU riding a 6-game win streak in season openers.
At home, the Mustangs have gone 14-1 in their last 15 games, averaging nearly 49 points per game. Lashlee’s squad has won 20 of its last 24 games overall and is 26-2 under his watch when scoring 30+.
East Texas A&M comes in after a 3-9 season but returns top WR Christian Jourdain.
Kickoff is set for Saturday in Dallas.
