FRISCO, TEXAS — Despite a fast start and an electric first half from the attack, FC Dallas couldn’t hold on, falling 4-3 to New York City FC in a wild, back-and-forth battle at Toyota Stadium. The loss ends Dallas’ short unbeaten run and leaves them searching for answers after a frustrating second half.
Petar Musa wasted no time making his presence felt, finding the net in the 15th minute with his 12th goal of the season. The Croatian striker has now scored five times in the past three matches, continuing to power the Dallas front line.
Rookie Logan Farrington followed suit with a brace — his first in MLS — netting two before the break to give Dallas a 3-2 halftime lead. It marked the first time since 2022 the club had three goals in a half from multiple scorers.
But the momentum flipped quickly after the break. NYCFC capitalized on mental lapses and defensive breakdowns to score twice more and steal all three points on the road.
Head coach Eric Quill didn’t mince words postmatch.
“We switched off,” Quill said bluntly. “Four mental lapses. That’s the game. You score three goals at home — you have to win. It’s unacceptable.”
The night also featured the debut of Christian Cappis, a former FC Dallas Academy product and Texas native, who returned stateside after stints in Denmark and Norway.
Despite the loss, the sellout streak continued, with 11,004 fans packing Toyota Stadium for the 28th straight match — even as construction on the east side of the venue continues.
Next Match: FC Dallas returns to action on Saturday, August 9, when they host the Portland Timbers at 7:30 p.m. CT. The game will stream live on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
Postgame Notes:
- Musa (12 goals) and Farrington (4 goals) continue to shine up front.
- NYCFC improves to 11-8-5; Dallas drops to 6-11-7.
- Defensive communication issues proved costly for a club still seeking consistency under Quill.
