ARLINGTON, Texas — The Rangers couldn’t finish the sweep Sunday night, falling 2-1 to Detroit in a tight series finale at Globe Life Field. Texas now sits at an even 50-50 through its first 100 games, despite winning eight of its last 13 overall.
Jacob Latz gave Texas a solid start, allowing just one run over five innings while striking out three. His lone blemish came in the second when Zach McKinstry’s RBI single put Detroit on the board. Latz worked out of a jam to limit the damage and continues to trend upward, posting a 2.38 ERA over his last 15 outings.
Corey Seager stayed hot, extending his on-base streak to 21 games with a two-hit night, including a double. His success against Tigers ace Tarik Skubal continued, as Seager is now 8-for-12 lifetime against the lefty, the best average of any hitter versus Skubal.
Adolis García chipped in with a double and scored the Rangers’ only run, coming home on a wild pitch in the eighth to tie the game 1-1.
But Detroit answered quickly. In the top of the eighth, Matt Vierling delivered the decisive blow — a go-ahead RBI single that scored Gleyber Torres.
Skubal, meanwhile, was dominant for Detroit, striking out 11 over 6.2 innings. He lowered his ERA to 2.19 and remains one of MLB’s elite arms.
The Tigers’ win snapped a six-game skid and gave them their 60th win of the season, the first team to hit that mark in 2025.
Texas will look to regroup after a missed chance at a sweep, but with Seager locked in and Latz finding a rhythm, there are positives to build on as the homestand continues.
