ARLINGTON, TX — Texas pushed itself above the .500 mark for the first time since May, taking down the American League-leading Tigers 4-1 on Saturday night at Globe Life Field. The win not only secured the series but also gave the Rangers the season series over Detroit for the third straight year.
Rookie Kumar Rocker was the story of the night. The right-hander flirted with a no-hitter into the sixth inning, finishing with 6.1 shutout frames — the longest scoreless outing of his young career. Rocker allowed just one hit and struck out five, improving to 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA at home this season. The Rangers have now won all five of his starts at Globe Life Field.
Offensively, newly promoted Rowdy Tellez made an immediate impact, launching a towering 432-foot three-run homer in the second inning — his first as a Ranger and the longest by a Texas hitter at home this season. Corey Seager continued his hot stretch with an RBI single in the fifth, extending his on-base streak to 20 games.
Catcher Kyle Higashioka quietly stretched his hitting streak to seven straight games, while Texas improved to 28-19 at home, winning its fourth straight in Arlington.
Detroit’s lone bright spot came via Riley Greene’s solo homer in the ninth — his 25th of the year, setting a new career high. Tigers starter Keider Montero struggled early, giving up Tellez’s blast and lasting just over four innings as Detroit dropped its sixth straight.
With the victory, Texas has now won three straight and five of its last six, showing signs of life as the second half gains steam.
