ARLINGTON, Texas — Behind dominant pitching and a late clutch hit from Corey Seager, the Texas Rangers edged the American League-leading Detroit Tigers 2-0 Friday night at Globe Life Field. The win moves Texas back to an even 49-49 on the season—their first time at .500 since mid-June.
Patrick Corbin set the tone, tossing 5.2 shutout innings while striking out six and allowing just three hits. It marked Corbin’s first scoreless outing as a Ranger and lowered his ERA to 3.91, his best mark this late in a season since 2019. He’s now held Detroit to just two runs over 12.2 innings across two starts this year.
With both teams locked in a scoreless battle through seven, Seager finally broke through in the eighth, lining a two-out, two-run double to give Texas the only runs they’d need. It was Seager’s first go-ahead hit in the eighth inning or later this season, extending his on-base streak to 19 consecutive games.
Kyle Higashioka chipped in two hits, extending his hitting streak to six games, while Cody Freeman made his MLB debut as a pinch runner in the eighth.
Detroit managed just four singles on the night, snapping their 38-game streak with an extra-base hit. Tigers starter Reese Olson was sharp but got no help offensively, leaving after five scoreless innings.
The victory secured Texas at least a season series win over Detroit, improving to 3-1 with two more games set for the weekend.
