ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Dallas Wings started hot and held their ground late, fending off the Phoenix Mercury for a 98–89 win Thursday night at College Park Center.
Dallas built a double-digit lead early behind high-energy play, then withstood a late push from the Mercury to notch a much-needed victory at home. Despite battling foul trouble and second-half lapses, the Wings showed grit when it mattered most.
Phoenix trimmed the deficit to single digits in the final minute, but the Wings kept their composure and closed out the game with key defensive stops and timely buckets.
Rookie guard Aziah James delivered a breakout performance, posting 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Her playmaking and relentless pace helped steady the Wings throughout the night.
The Mercury were fueled by a dominant outing from Kahleah Copper, who poured in 35 points along with 5 boards and an assist to keep Phoenix within striking distance.
With the win, Dallas snaps a skid and builds momentum heading into a three-game road trip. The Wings will see Phoenix again Saturday night at 9 PM CDT in a rematch at Footprint Center.
