Rangers Blank Again as Blue Jays Take Series Finale

ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Rangers’ offensive struggles continued Wednesday night in a 2-0 loss to Toronto, giving the Blue Jays the series win at Globe Life Field. Texas managed just one hit—a leadoff single by Josh Smith—before going 0-for-27 the rest of the way. It marked the club’s seventh shutout of the season and their fewest hits in a game since last September.

The Rangers have now lost eight of their last ten and nine of their last 12. They’re 6-11-1 in series play this year and 4-4-1 at home.

Tyler Mahle delivered six shutout innings, lowering his ERA to 1.64—third-lowest through 12 starts in team history. He stranded every Toronto runner in scoring position and continued a franchise-record streak by the rotation: 19 straight games allowing three earned runs or fewer.

Josh Smith reached base three times and was the only Ranger with a hit. Rookie Alejandro Osuna drew a walk and has now reached safely in each of his first four MLB games.

Toronto broke the scoreless tie in the ninth with a pinch-hit two-run homer from Bo Bichette. Paxton Schultz started for the Jays and allowed just one hit over 2.2 innings in his first MLB start. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. extended his on-base streak to 28 games.
