Rangers Drop Series Opener to Blue Jays, 2-1

ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Rangers fell 2-1 to the Blue Jays on Memorial Day, opening their six-game homestand with another tough loss. Texas has now lost seven of its last eight and sits at 26-29, three games under .500.

Jacob deGrom took the loss after allowing two runs over 5.1 innings, striking out none for the first time in his career. A solo homer by Daulton Varsho in the first and a sac fly by Alejandro Kirk in the fourth accounted for Toronto’s offense.

Wyatt Langford supplied Texas’ only run with a solo homer—his team-leading 10th of the season. Rookie Alejandro Osuna recorded two of the Rangers’ five hits, including his first in the majors.

Kevin Gausman dominated for Toronto, allowing one run over eight innings while throwing first-pitch strikes to 26 of 29 batters. Varsho had three hits, and Toronto snapped a three-game losing streak while improving to 5-3 in its last eight road games.

Game 2 of the series is Tuesday in Arlington.
