Jets Shut Out Stars in Game 5, Force Game 6

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — The Winnipeg Jets staved off elimination with a dominant 4-0 win over the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of their Western Conference semifinal series Thursday night.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped all 22 shots for his second shutout of the postseason, while Nikolaj Ehlers scored twice to lead Winnipeg’s attack. Mark Scheifele and Vladislav Namestnikov also found the net as the Jets improved to 6-1 at home in the playoffs.

Scheifele opened the scoring in the second period on a deflection. Ehlers added a power-play goal early in the third during a 5-on-3, and Namestnikov followed with another power-play strike. Ehlers sealed it with a short-handed empty-netter.

Dallas goalie Jake Oettinger made 31 saves in the loss. Tensions flared late when Stars captain Jamie Benn was ejected for a late-game altercation and could face discipline ahead of Game 6 on Saturday in Dallas.
