Raleigh’s Early Homer Lifts Mariners to Series Sweep

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON — Cal Raleigh wasted no time putting Seattle in front, launching a two-run homer in the first inning that set the tone for a 3-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday. The win completed a three-game sweep and brought the Mariners back to .500 at 8-8.

Logan Gilbert (1-1) held Texas in check over five innings, giving up just a solo homer to Dustin Harris in the second. He struck out seven, walked one, and allowed only three hits.

Nathan Eovaldi (1-2) couldn’t make it through the sixth. After a Julio Rodríguez single and a defensive error, Eovaldi hit two batters — including Raleigh — to force in a run and was lifted.

Seattle’s bullpen slammed the door, with Gabe Speier, Carlos Vargas, and Trent Thornton each working a perfect inning. Andrés Muñoz wrapped it up in the ninth for his sixth save, keeping his ERA at 0.00 through eight innings.

The Rangers return home to face the Angels, who are set to start Yusei Kikuchi (0-2, 5.00 ERA).
