Raleigh’s Late Blast Lifts Mariners Over Rangers 5-3

SEATTLE, WA — Cal Raleigh launched a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning to push the Mariners past the Rangers 5-3 Friday night. The 399-foot shot was his third of the season and broke the franchise record for home runs by a catcher (96).

Seattle (6-8) got early solo homers from Jorge Polanco—who went 3-for-4—and Rowdy Tellez. Bryce Miller allowed just one hit and struck out five over five innings. Andres Muñoz closed it out for his fifth save.

Texas (9-5) tied it in the eighth on Josh Jung’s first homer of the year. He drove in all three Rangers runs. Jacob deGrom gave up three runs over four innings.

Up next: Kumar Rocker (0-1, 7.88 ERA) faces Bryan Woo (1-0, 3.75 ERA) on Saturday.
