SAN JOSE, CA — FC Dallas’ playoff hopes came to an end on Wednesday night after a tough 3-2 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes at PayPal Park. Despite goals from Alan Velasco and Sebastien Ibeagha, the defeat officially knocked Dallas out of the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Velasco netted his second goal of the season in the 40th minute, assisted by Petar Musa. Meanwhile, Ibeagha set a personal best with his second goal of the season, heading in a Sebastian Lletget corner late in the second half.

Veteran goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer stepped up for just his second start of the season, filling in for the injured Maarten Paes. However, Dallas couldn’t hold off the Earthquakes’ attack, leading to their playoff elimination.

Interim head coach Peter Luccin expressed frustration with the missed opportunities, stating, “We didn’t take care of business, and it’s all on us.”

With their postseason dreams dashed, FC Dallas will now focus on finishing the season strong, starting with their match against the Portland Timbers on Sunday, Oct. 6.
