Breaking the Streak: Can the Dallas Wings Find Redemption in Chicago?

CHICAGO, IL — The Dallas Wings and Chicago Sky continue to struggle to secure wins and will face each other tonight at Wintrust Arena. Dallas aims to bounce back in their third meeting against the Chicago Sky this season.

Dallas is coming off a 90-78 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Monday. The team was without Arike Ogunbowale, who was ruled out for the matchup. However, leading scorers Maddy Siegrist and Sevgi Uzun each contributed 17 points, followed by Monique Billings with 15 points.

Injuries have plagued the Wings this season, resulting in their eighth straight loss and dropping their record to 3-10. They have not secured a win since late May. The last time these two teams faced each other, the series was split 1-1.

Injury Update:

Wings:

  • Arike Ogunbowale – Questionable (Achilles)
  • Natasha Howard – Doubtful (Foot)
  • Jaelyn Brown – Out (Illness)
  • Satou Sabally – Out (Shoulder)
  • Maddy Siegrist – Out (Finger)

Sky:

  • Elizabeth Williams – Out (Knee)
  • Diamond DeShields – Day-to-Day

As of yesterday, Maddy Siegrist is out for the upcoming game after suffering a broken finger during the first quarter of Monday’s game against Minnesota. The team has signed forward Morgan Bertsch on a salary cap hardship contract. Despite the team facing challenges due to injuries, there are signs of hope for the return of Natasha Howard, also known as “Flash.”

Howard was seen taking some shots and practicing with the team during yesterday’s shootaround, which will be crucial in helping the Wings make a run before August.

With the Wings ranked No. 11 in the league for defense, it will be critical to get Teaira McCowan and Kalani Brown on the floor to compete against Chicago’s bigs, rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. They will also need to find a way to contain Marina Mabrey, who scored 19 and 14 points in the two teams’ last meetings.

These two teams will go head-to-head on Thursday afternoon, with tip-off set for 11 a.m.
