SMU Beats Up Tulsa, 69-10

DALLAS, TEXAS — The league leading SMU Mustangs gave Tulsa a good old fashioned butt whooping after completely destroying Tulsa 69-10 Saturday afternoon in front of an SMU Homecoming crowd of 20,800 fans at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

The Mustangs scored on all but one of its first-half possessions to take a 52-3 lead into halftime. It was the most points given up by a Tulsa team since a 48-0 halftime deficit against Houston in an 82-28 loss in 1988. Tulsa’s three first half points came on kicker Chase Meyer’s 35 yard field goal to make the score 14-3 in the first quarter.
SMU ended the game with 638 yards, while Tulsa had 247 yards of total offense.

Mustangs quarterback Preston Stone threw for 15 of 20 for 371 yards and three touchdowns. This was a new career high for Stone.

SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee has won by 114 points in the last two games and he stated in press conference that, “I was speechless. I was speechless the last game as well but these guys are doing a great job but now that the ball is rolling we need to keep the momentum going.”

SMU will hit the road to take on Rice University next Saturday, November 4th.
