SMU Mustangs vs Cincinnati Bearcats Preview

DALLAS, Texas – SMU is set to host the Cincinnati Bearcats, for their homecoming game, this Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. The game will be live streamed on ESPN.

Cincinnati has four straight wins over SMU and is looking to make Saturday’s game their fifth. The Mustangs are coming off of a solid win over the Navy last week, while the Bearcats had a bye week.

Cincinnati has one of the top offenses, and arguably one of the top defenses in the AAC. SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee told the media this week, “We got our work cut out for us.”

Earlier in the week, SMU true freshman CB Jayden Lawton announced he will be sitting out the rest of the season, in order to transfer when the transfer portal opens. Lawton has not seen any playing time so far this season, but was a player SMU coaches seemed to be optimistic about contributing to the team in the future.

“After talking closely with my family and everyone in my corner, I’ve decided to explore my options and see who can best prepare me for my future,” Lawton wrote on Instagram. “With that being said, I will be sitting out the rest of this season with intentions to enter the transfer portal.”

Senior wide receiver Rashee Rice, arguably the best wide receiver on the Mustang offense, suffered a toe injury during the TCU game which has slowed him down slightly in games since. Rice was not at practice on Wednesday, so it is questionable whether or not he will play on Saturday.

Running back Tre Siggers, who sat out against the Navy last week, was not in pads during practice this week due to a groin injury suffered earlier in the season. Chances are low that Siggers plays on Saturday.

With key players out and injured, SMU will need to be on their A-game on both sides of the ball if they want to take down one of the leading teams in the AAC.
