Wings Unable To Bypass Chicago’s Defense Resulting In 89-83 Loss

CHICAGO, IL- The Dallas Wings left Illinois with a loss on their record after Friday nights loss against the Chicago Sky.

Arike Ogunbowale lead Dallas with 28 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Isabella Harrisons 18 points. Both Allisha Gray and Marina Mabrey had 7 rebounds but were unsuccessful to help offensively.

Chicago outscored Dallas in the first half by seven points, giving the Wings a disadvantage to start the second half. Isabelle Harrison was making it happen for Dallas on offense as the forward scored back to back shots at the beginning of the second quarter, hoping to start an offensive trend.

All five Chicago players on the court put pressure on the Wings defense as they take the lead by fourteen points, shooting 56.1% before halftime. Sky players Emma Meesseman and Kahleah Copper both had double digits before halftime scoring 21 points total. Chicago leads 50-39 at halftime.

Dallas, being down by eleven, opened up the third quarter going on a nine and three run against Chicago, bringing the score within five. Wings were short of Center Awak Kuier due to an early game ankle injury, then followed with Allisha Gray being removed from the game after the guard collides with Emma Meesseman knee.

Down two vital player, Dallas stepped up on offense in hopes to shorten Chicagos lead. In the fourth quarter, Allisha Gray re-enters the game and the Wings are able to bring the game to a 77- 77 tie.

The Wings were able to keep the game within four the remainder of the game, it was Chicago who came out on top with a 89-83 score. Dallas shot 51.5% from the field while their opponent was right behind them shooting 50.7%.

The Wings shot 100% from the free throw line and snagged 30 rebounds.

The Wings will head to Indianapolis where they will face Indiana Fever Sunday at 2 PM CT
