SMU Mustangs Host UCF Knights


DALLAS, Texas — SMU set to Host UCF at 11am on ESPNU. Both teams have had great years to this point, each with 2 loses in the American. SMU comes off tough back to back loses on the road, sitting at 7-2 overall. UCF comes to Dallas on a 3 game win streak, 6-3 overall.

Sonny Dykes leads the Mustangs in his 4th season as their Head Coach. Dykes has been outstanding in his time in Dallas, where the. Mustangs are 13-1 at home since the beginning of the 2019 season. Former Auburn Head Coach, Gus Malzahn is in his 1st season with the Knights. Malzahn won an SEC Championship at Auburn. 

Tanner Mordecai and the Mustangs offense lead the American in 3 offensive categories: passing offense (322 yards per game), scoring offense (40 points per game) and total offense (484 yards per game). Mordecai has shined in his first season in Dallas and has been named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.

The Knights have been dominant in the series, winning 8 of 9 match-ups, including the most recent, a 48-20 win in 2018. The Mustangs have the opportunity to beat the Knights for the 1st time since 2011
