SMU vs Louisiana Tech Preview

DALLAS, Texas — SMU is on the road for the first time this season as they take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Saturday.

The Mustangs are 2-0 on the season, while Louisiana Tech is 1-1 after giving Mississippi State a 34-35 scare and then beating Southeast Louisiana 45-42.

SMU needs to look for going into this week’s game:

  • Louisiana Tech had a great balance in their previous game with 250 yards and two touchdowns through the air and 200 rushing yards and three scores on the ground.
  • The Bulldogs have weapon defensively, the safety Bee Jay Williamson who had a successful last game, completing six tackles, two forced fumbles and two interceptions, and one of which he returned for a touchdown. Williamson is a threat that SMU head Sonny Dykes will have to be aware of at all times.

This is the sixth meeting between SMU and Louisiana Tech, with the Bulldogs holding the 4-1 all-time advantage. SMU last won in 2002 (37-34), when the teams were members of the Western Athletic Conference. The only previous non-conference meeting between the teams was the 2017 Frisco Bowl.

The Mustangs are favored to win the fight against the Bulldogs by at least 12 points. SMU is looking to open the season with five straight wins in three consecutive seasons for the first time since 1981-83.
