DALLAS, TEXAS — SMU Men’s Basketball beat the University of Connecticut 79-75 Wednesday night in Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs are (17-6) overall, while UConn leaves Dallas (13-11) overall.

SMU got down early and didn’t take their first lead until half way through the first half. The game was full of free throws and lead changes until SMU point guard, Kendric Davis got aggressive offensively, with about 5 minutes to go in the first half. The Mustangs started moving the ball really well and got in a rhythm shooting, allowing them to take a 38-32 lead at the break.

UConn never regained the lead, but the Huskies kept it close throughout the rest of the game. Beating UConn means another league win for the Mustangs who currently hold a (7-4) record in the American Athletic Conference.

Feron Hunt had an outstanding game for the Mustangs, leading them in scoring with 23-points and 7 rebounds. Kendric Davis scored 19 tonight, with 6 assists. Davis leads the AAC in assists per game so far this season.

Tonight’s game was the first and only regular season match up between the teams, but they could see each other again in the conference tournament, which will be in Fort Worth, March 12th-15th.

Tim Jankovich and his team have won 13 home games this year, dropping only 1 game so far in Moody Coliseum. They have won their last 7 in a row at home, averaging 80 points per game.

The Mustangs host the University of Houston on Saturday. Houston leads the AAC and ranks 20th nationally. Saturdays game will be a great opportunity for the Mustangs to continue to gain momentum in an environment that appears to be their key to success. Tip off will be at 5 pm CT.
