DALLAS, Texas — SMU defeated North Texas, 49-27, last week for its third win in its last four home openers. SMU also started the season 2-0 for the second time in three years and looks to go 3-0 for the first time since 1984.

Head Coach Sonny Dykes said when he first took this job, he wanted to play meaningful games in December which to him means playing the games hard throughout the season. Dykes points out how Texas State has an outstanding defense, which he believes is going to be tough to deal with.

Xavier Jones and Patrick Nelson were both named to the AAC Players of the Week. Jones rushed for three TDs this last game and current leads the nation with six rushing TDs. Nelson registered seven tackles, 2 sacks and an interception against UNT.

The Mustangs host Texas State Saturday at 6 p.m.
