Dallas Cowboys Decline Option For WR Terrance Williams

FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys have declined the contract option of Terrance Williams for the upcoming 2019 season per ESPN. The wide receiver will now become an unrestricted free agent in March.

The veteran player caught only two receptions for 18 yards in three games during the 2018 season. This past year was the first time the six-year Cowboy did not have a full 16-game season. Williams was placed on injured reserve for the majority of the 2018 season due to a foot injury, and was suspended three games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. Throughout his tenure with the Silver and Blue, Williams amassed 232 receptions for 3,377 yards and 20 touchdowns.

No. 83 signed a four-year $17 million contract in 2017 and was set to make $3.5 million in 2019. With his dismissal, Dallas will save $2.25 million in cap space.

The addition of deep threat, Amari Cooper, to the Cowboys’ receiving core in week nine of 2018, elevated the team’s passing game and the overall performance level of the other receivers. Michael Gallup became more comfortable with the Cowboys’ offensive scheme and more fluid on routes, providing another open target for Dak Prescott in the latter part of the season. With their success on the gridiron and the re-signing decisions of Cole Beasley and Tavon Austin looming ahead, the club decided to let Williams walk in the best interest of the team.
The best of luck to Terrance Williams as he moves forward!
