Tavon Austin Versatility Making An Impact In Training Camp

OXNARD, Calif. – Since full pads began this past week at Dallas Cowboys Training Camp in Oxnard and the physicality increased on the field, more players are beginning to stand out. In a press conference, head coach Jason Garrett described the influence of rookie Tavon Austin on the offensive side of the ball.

Austin is in his first camp as a Dallas Cowboy and is quickly making a name for himself with his versatile skillset as a receiver, running back, and on special teams. Garrett stated, “What we like about Tavon is his versatility. He is very quick and good with the ball in his hands. We will work on different ways to gain him the ball: inside, outside, and in the backfield. “

The Rams were not able to utilize Austin’s full potential, even with Sean McVay’s knowledgeable coaching style of the offense. The Cowboys will use Austin as a “web-back,” a receiver out of the backfield and in the slot. The club traded Ryan Switzer to Oakland to acquire Austin, and he will have his shot as a punt and kick returner. He had one kickoff last season with L.A.

Throughput camp, Austin has primarily practiced with the receiver group and they have used a variety of techniques to get him the ball. He has connected well with QB Dak Prescott and has made several huge catches down the sideline. He will be a threat to watch on offense this season for the Cowboys!
