DALLAS — Dallas Trinity FC controlled long stretches of play but came up short where it mattered most, falling 2-1 to Tampa Bay Sun FC in a tightly contested matchup that carried postseason implications.
Despite the result, Dallas remains in position to secure a playoff berth, holding fourth place in the Gainbridge Super League standings, where only the top four teams advance.
Dallas dictated tempo throughout the match, owning 58.7% of possession and outshooting Tampa Bay 15-10. But inefficiency in the final third proved costly, as only three of those attempts tested the goalkeeper.
The breakthrough for Dallas came late when defender Amber Wisner converted a penalty in the 76th minute, marking her second goal of the season. It trimmed the deficit but wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
Goalkeeper Tyler McCamey turned in a steady performance with two saves, bringing her season total to 24 across eight appearances.
Head coach Nathan Thackeray emphasized resilience postgame, pointing to missed opportunities rather than effort.
“We just have to keep pushing through,” Thackeray said. “We played some really good soccer. The difference was finishing our chances.”
Forward Chioma Ubogagu echoed that sentiment, noting Dallas had control early but couldn’t capitalize.
“We had good looks in the first half and felt in control,” Ubogagu said. “We believe in this group. We’ll learn from it and move forward.”
The loss drops Dallas to 0-1-1 against Tampa Bay this season, with one more meeting set for May 9 on the road.
Fifteen players saw the field for Dallas in a match that reflected both the team’s promise and its current challenge — turning control into results.
