Horned Frogs Rally Past Washington in Overtime, Punch Ticket to Sweet 16

FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU turned adversity into another March moment.

Facing its largest halftime deficit of the season, the Horned Frogs stormed back and outlasted Washington in overtime Sunday at Schollmaier Arena, continuing a postseason surge that now has them headed to the Sweet 16.

TCU trailed by eight at the break — a familiar position as of late. The Horned Frogs have now gone into halftime behind in three of their last four games, yet they’ve made a habit of responding. Sunday’s win pushed them to 6-1 on the year when trailing at halftime.

This one required extra time, but TCU delivered in its first overtime appearance at home in more than four years. The program hadn’t played beyond regulation at Schollmaier Arena since a 2021 win over Kansas — its last overtime victory before Sunday. With the result, the Horned Frogs improved to 19-25 all-time in overtime games and 11-5 in those contests on their home floor.

The victory also carried historical weight. TCU climbed above .500 all-time for the first time in program history, now sitting at 737-736. It’s a remarkable turnaround for a team that was 64 games below .500 before head coach Mark Campbell took over in March 2023.

Momentum has defined this group down the stretch. The Horned Frogs have now won 10 of their last 11 games dating back to mid-February and remain unbeaten in NCAA Tournament play against Big Ten opponents, improving to 4-0.

Leading the charge was a record-breaking performance from Miles, who etched her name into the program’s history books early. Her first basket of the game gave her 698 points on the season, setting a new single-season scoring record for TCU. She didn’t stop there.

Miles controlled the game throughout, recording her 11th double-double of the season while extending a streak of scoring in double figures to all 36 games she’s played in a Horned Frog uniform. It also marked her 25th game this year with at least 15 points and five assists — a testament to her all-around impact.

Bigby continued her hot shooting in the tournament, finishing with another strong outing from beyond the arc. She knocked down three 3-pointers — the 20th time in her career she’s hit at least that many — and has now made multiple triples in three of her last five games. During the NCAA Tournament, she’s been especially efficient, shooting 52 percent from deep and averaging a team-best 21 points per game.

Silva added a key interior presence with 16 points, her second-highest total this season, while posting back-to-back double-digit scoring games for the first time since January. She’s also been active on the glass, averaging nine rebounds across her last four starts.

Hunter contributed as a facilitator, dishing out four assists — continuing a trend of steady playmaking in tournament action.

For Campbell, the win marked a personal milestone as well — his 100th career victory — but more importantly, it kept TCU’s season alive.

And the way the Horned Frogs are playing, this run may not be finished yet.
