DALLAS — The Dallas Stars defeated the Edmonton Oilers 7–2 in their final regular-season meeting. With the win, Dallas extended its winning streak against Edmonton to four games and has now outscored the Oilers 22–11 during that span.
“I thought we started good and we executed really good in the beginning. It wasn’t quite our normal game. You get up 3-0 and the dynamic kind of changes. I thought they had some pushes at times. The power play kept stinging them a little bit and they could never get traction. We talked in the second a little bit that we needed a little bit more grind. We started off the second and kind of got a little loose. I liked our effort and how we composed ourselves and got the third period back on track,” said Glen Gulutzan.
There was plenty of excitement throughout the night, including another milestone for Wyatt Johnston, who is already putting together yet another career year. Johnston scored his 22nd power-play goal of the season, tying the single-season franchise record for most power-play goals.
On the success of the power play, Johnston said, “I think we just have a lot of great players who can make plays. Obviously, coaching staff have been great and given us the tools to allow us to be successful and then it’s kind of just on us to execute and do what we can do and just kind of make teams pay.”
With Johnston’s goal, the Stars extended their power-play scoring streak to 11 games, setting a new Dallas Stars record for the longest such streak since the franchise moved to Dallas in 1993–94. The organization last reached that mark from Oct. 11 to Nov. 18, 1986, when the team was still in Minnesota.
Justin Hryckowian is quickly becoming a fan favorite, once again standing up for his teammates and getting involved in a scrum with Oilers captain Connor McDavid.
“It’s great. I think that’s the best part of being on a team, you know the guys next to you have your back and everything. We’re a super close team and we’re willing to fight for each other.”
The Stars also extended their point streak to 14 games, now just one shy of the franchise record of 15. Stars take on the Red Wings Saturday at 7 PM.
